Interactive Brokers Adds Nextrade Access for Korean Equities

Interactive Brokers has expanded its Korean equities offering. It’s adding access to Nextrade, South Korea's first Alternative Trading System (ATS). The launch gives clients another way to trade Korean stocks with the Korea Exchange (KRX). The company had already become the first major US-based broker to offer direct access to Korean equities through the Korea Exchange. Clients get more trading opportunities and longer market access with now available Nextrade.

Longer Trading Hours

Nextrade gives clients access to around 650 securities listed on the KOSPI and KOSDAQ markets. One of the biggest additions is the extended trading window. Now, investors can trade from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM Korea Standard Time (KST). The 12-hour schedule is divided into three sessions:

  1. Pre-Market: 8:00 AM to 8:50 AM
  2. Standard: 9:00 AM to 3:20 PM
  3. After-Market: 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM

The longer trading hours let investors react to global market events outside regular exchange hours. Also, it helps those trading across different time zones.

Smart Order Routing

Interactive Brokers has enabled its IB SmartRouting system across Nextrade and the Korea Exchange. The system automatically sends orders to the venue offering the best available price. It helps clients achieve better execution and gives them more liquidity.

Access to Korean Markets

Clients can trade Korean equities through both exchanges using the same Interactive Brokers platform. The platform also supports trading across more than 170 worldwide markets. Investors can manage stocks, options, futures, currencies, bonds, and funds from one account.

What Executives Say

According to David Friedland, Managing Director for Asia Pacific at Interactive Brokers, South Korea is an important market for global investors because of its innovative companies. He said adding Nextrade with the Korea Exchange gives clients flexibility to trade Korean stocks. Also, it supports the company's goal of offering broad market access at competitive costs.
