Euroclear has appointed James Chang as its new Chief Executive Officer, Asia Pacific. He will take up the role after an onboarding period that begins in September. Chang will lead Euroclear’s strategy in the Asia Pacific region. He will support the company’s growth and development in the region.

About the Role

Chang will report directly to Valérie Urbain, Chief Executive Officer of Euroclear Group. He will also join the Group Managing Director community. Chang brings over 20 years of leadership experience at PwC in Greater China. He previously led PwC’s Consulting organisation before heading its Financial Services practice. He has also built relationships with senior executives across the region and developed a strong network in the financial services industry. Before PwC, Chang held financial roles at JPMorgan and Spear, Leeds & Kellogg. It is now a part of Goldman Sachs.

What Executive Says

Valérie Urbain said Asia Pacific is a major priority for Euroclear. She sees Chang’s appointment as an important step in developing the company’s business across the region. Urbain also stressed Chang’s leadership experience, financial services knowledge and relationships across Asia Pacific. She expects these strengths to help Euroclear strengthen its local presence, support clients and pursue new growth opportunities.

Chang said he is joining Euroclear at an important time for the company and Asia Pacific’s capital markets. He pointed to Euroclear’s role in the global financial ecosystem, its focus on clients and its ambitions for the region as key reasons for joining the company. He also said he looks forward to working with colleagues and partners across Asia Pacific. He will build on Euroclear’s existing foundations and support its next growth phase.

Philippe Laurensy

Chang will succeed Philippe Laurensy, who plans to retire in mid-2027 after 40 years with Euroclear. Laurensy has contributed mightily to the company, most recently serving as Chief Executive Officer, Asia Pacific. Euroclear credited his client focus, market expertise, and commitment to its people with helping shape the Group’s position in Asia and globally.
