Standard Chartered Expands Tanuj Kapilashrami’s Role as Group COO
Standard Chartered has announced changes to its Group Management Team. The changes will bring more operational functions under Tanuj Kapilashrami. She became Group Chief Operating Officer (GCOO) in May 2026. From 1 October, Tanuj will take responsibility for several non-client-facing operations in addition to the functions previously under Strategy & Talent.

Tanuj will lead payments and transaction processing, trade operations, and reconciliation services. Her responsibilities will also include Group Resilience and Global Business Services. Standard Chartered says the move will bring people and processes closer together. It will also create stronger alignment between transformation oversight and execution.
The bank expects this structure to help turn strategy into action faster. The bank also plans to continue investing in future-ready skills with Global Business Services at the centre. It should help improve productivity and toughen the capabilities that differentiate the bank.
Noelle Eder Continues to Lead Technology
Noelle Eder will continue as Group Head, Technology. Her role remains centered on directing the bank's technology teams. Standard Chartered says the technology space is advancing and that’s making technology an important source of competitive advantage. The updated structure gives Noelle and her team grander focus and capacity to rev the bank's technology agenda. The bank wants its technology function to strengthen its core operations, drive specialisation at scale, and support innovation across its businesses.
Working Together
Tanuj and Noelle will work closely with each other, as well as with the bank's businesses and other functions. The bank says this collaboration will help rev change and deliver benefits faster. The wider goal is to keep evolving how Standard Chartered leads, operates, and transforms the bank.
Who is Tanuj Kapilashrami
Tanuj has spent more than nine years at Standard Chartered. Before becoming Group Chief Operating Officer, she served as Chief Strategy & Talent Officer. Before that, she was Chief Human Resources Officer.
Earlier in her Standard Chartered career, Tanuj served as Global Head, Talent, Learning & Culture and Global Head, HR, CCIB. She previously worked at HSBC. There, she held various roles across India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, and London.
