Darwinex to Stop Offering CFDs to New Retail Spanish Clients

Darwinex announced that it will stop offering Contracts for Difference (CFDs) to new retail clients in Spain from July 31, 2024. The decision comes in response to stringent regulatory measures imposed by the Comisión Nacional del Mercado de Valores (CNMV) to protect inexperienced investors in the Spanish market.

Darwinex to Stop Offering CFDs – About the Decision

Effective July 31, 2024, Darwinex will no longer offer CFDs to new retail clients and residents in Spain. Darwinex noted the difficulty in preventing their branding from reaching inexperienced Spanish retail clients as a reason for the cessation. Affected clients include:

  • New retail clients in Spain who wish to open CFD accounts.
  • New residents in Spain seeking to trade CFDs.

Existing clients will not be affected if they meet the following conditions:

  • They already hold a real CFD account with Darwinex as either a Trader or an Investor.
  • They complete the real account opening process before July 31, 2024.
  • They are categorized as professional clients with Darwinex.

Effects on Traders and Investors

For existing traders and investors:

  • Existing traders and investors with CFD accounts will not be affected, ensuring continuity in their trading activities.
  • Professional clients will also continue to have access to CFD trading.
  • Current clients can still open new accounts and trade CFDs if they complete the process before the cutoff date.

For new traders and investors:

  • New retail traders and investors will not have access to CFD trading with Darwinex.
  • Potential new clients will need to consider alternative trading instruments by Darwinex, such as stocks, ETFs, and futures.

Alternative Offerings for New Clients

  • Post-July 31, 2024, new clients can access multiple assets through Darwinex, including stocks, Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs), and futures.
  • Darwinex has integrated with Interactive Brokers to enable the trading of shares, futures, and ETFs.
  • The Darwinex Zero platform offers a subscription-based trading service available globally to provide seed capital to successful traders and share profits through this platform.
