Cboe Futures Exchange to Upgrade Infrastructure with NY5 Server Relocation

Cboe Futures Exchange (CFE) will relocate and rebuild its server equipment on May 3, 2025. The purpose is to enhance system performance by deploying new hardware within the NY5 data center.

What’s Changing at the Cboe Futures Exchange?

CFE will install new server and network hardware. The equipment will be moved to a different location inside the NY5 data center to support this upgrade.

CFE will upgrade its Matching Engines, Order Handlers, and Market Data Systems. All systems will run on newer generation hardware. Network infrastructure will also be enhanced with updated switch models and higher internal uplink bandwidth.

Impact on TPHs (Trading Privilege Holders)

TPHs can expect better system performance after the upgrade. No action is required from users to support these changes.

Network and Infrastructure Adjustments

CFE will extend the fiber runs connecting TPH access switches to the new server location. This adjustment accommodates the new hardware position inside NY5.

Testing Opportunity for Users

The upgraded production environment will be available for testing on April 12, 2025. Testing will run from 7:30 a.m. CT to 11:00 a.m. CT.

Benefits for Users

The update will have these benefits for users:

Improved Performance

The upgrade to new-generation matching engines, order handlers, and market data systems means lower latency and faster execution. This is highly valuable for algorithmic and high-frequency traders.

Enhanced Infrastructure

Upgrades to network switches and uplink bandwidth will improve stability and throughput during high-volume periods, reducing the risk of system lags.

Scalability and Future Readiness

New server and network hardware will support more advanced trading needs and higher market demands going forward.

No User-side Adjustments Needed

The transition will be seamless. Trading privilege holders won’t need to make any changes, which reduces operational disruption.

Early Testing Access

With user testing scheduled for April 12, firms can verify how the changes affect their systems and trading strategies ahead of the full switch on May 3.
